NIST offers comprehensive language instruction across five distinct pathways: English as a Second Language (ESL), French as a Second Language (FSL), English Literacy Development (ELD), Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), and the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). ELD Program
English Literacy Development (ELD) is a program for English language learners who have had limited opportunities to develop language and literacy skills in their first language.
ELD courses are designed for English language learners in Ontario schools who have had limited opportunities to develop language and literacy skills in any language. These students may come from countries where schooling was disrupted or not available.
NIST ELD program focuses on accelerating language acquisition and building fundamental literacy and numeracy concepts to help students transition into mainstream Canadian curriculum.

ESL Program
English as a Second Language (ESL) programs provide international students with the opportunity to learn English or improve their language skills in English. ESL comprises with four areas of teaching such as (i) Reading, (ii) Writing, (iii) Listening and (iv) Speaking.
NIST ESL curriculum is structured around the five proficiency levels defined by the Ontario Ministry of Education (ESLAO through ESLEO). Each level expands vocabulary, grammar, and communicative competence.
Students engage in comprehensive literacy activities, academic essay writing, oral presentations, and analytical reading of contemporary literature.

FSL Program
French as a second language (FSL) at the Ontario School Board in Canada is a required language to study from Grades 4 to 8. Further, students need to earn at least one credit in FSL in secondary school (i.e., Grades 9 to 12) to obtain the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).

TOEFL Program
